This fandom constantly underappreciates what a fantastic villain Obadiah Stane was. Don’t @ me or boo me, y’all know I’m right.

yes. and you know why. 

because he was so simply human. 

He was this small scale thing, when it really comes down to it. He wasn’t Red Skull leading Hydra. He wasn’t Loki with the Chitauri. He wasn’t Ultron. He wasn’t this Big Thing™ that had to be stopped to save the whole of the world. He was terrifyingly human, jealous of Tony, using Tony, and making money selling weapons. He wasn’t malicious as much as he was indifferent. He wasn’t a sterotype of evil, he was the kind of evil you can see anyone slipping into. Greed and wealth and out of sight out of mind compounding until he started crossing lines. 

He’s nice, he laughs, he jokes, he’s rational. They didn’t slip into ‘oh he’s crazy’ they just let him be a bad person. They didn’t make the serum turn him crazy. He hasn’t been tortured. He hasn’t been betrayed. He’s privileged. He’s wealthy. He’s greedy. 

He’s human. 

And that’s always the scariest option.
