i wanted to shitpost more about how much steve projects his relationship with tony onto the current status of the avengers as a team but being on a team with tony, being an avenger with him and fighting at his side, has literally been his definition of home for over a decade. it’s the thing he comes back to when everything is said and done, when the battles are over and the wars have been won or lost.

every time tony’s tried to leave the team or suggested disbanding it or tries to convince him that they shouldn’t reassemble, you can see how personally steve takes it because it’s such a huge part of their relationship and who they are to each other. their best moments together have been as active members in the avengers roster, and their worst arguably when one or both of them weren’t. sure, there have been other lineups and co-leaders and teams that have worked successfully, but it’s not the same. tony and steve have always been their happiest as avengers, as co-leaders.

for steve, re-assembling the avengers with tony, rebuilding the avengers and bringing it all back together, is how he gets to come home.
