“Robert Downey Jr. wanted to do that (the ‘Demon in a Bottle’ storyline). That’s his favourite Iron Man storyline for obvious reasons. Part of his attraction to the character in the first place was those stories but attitude to their line (of films) was much more upbeat and light-hearted and (Jon) Favareau said, ‘It’ll never get done, it’s way too dark.’ It wasn’t the tone they were going for and I understand that. The scene in Iron Man 2, when he is drunk and out of control at his own party, is there to placate Downey, who wanted to play an out-of-control Tony Stark and I think they wrote that in there to give him a chance to do that. So he could feel like he did a little bit of ‘Demon in a Bottle’.”
#holy shit this is completely contrary to the story up till now abt them avoiding it bc of obvious reasons#HOLY SHIT#just thinking abt this fucks me up#it wouldn’t have been a good narrative choice and certainly not for this franchise but#ho l y mother of god rdj would have knocked it out the park#type: quote#universe: mcu#character: tony stark#person: robert downey jr#gIVES YOU NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THAT SCENE NOW THOUGH#and like 10000% legitimacy to the readings of mcu tony being a high functional alcoholic
okay someone on reddit said it was interesting tony’s mark 50 helmet has the gold sweeping along the temples
because like
that gold sweeping design? kinda looks like the wings on steve’s helmet
and i am now emotionally compromised because of this
Best part? Tony’s probably not even aware of it. Let’s assume the nanites are cybernetically connected to him, because how else could they morph into what Tony wanted without a built-in AI? That means the nanites are able to detect feelings that Tony doesn’t necessarily want to talk or even think about. It could explain why they formed that helmet design, because the nanites could detect, by Tony’s heart rate and chemical composition, the source image still brought him deep-seated comfort, beneath all of that tempestuous rage.
That’s such a great point; I hadn’t even thought about it being a totally subconscious act. @nebzula had the same observation too
This goes hand-in-hand with Tony’s new suit having so many shields. Before, Tony never had to carry a shield, because he always had Steve to guard his back. But now he has to shield himself, because Steve’s not there.
