Hawkeye vs. Deadpool #0

I really appreciated all the little nods to Clint’s deafness in this issue. I’m glad other writers are acknowledging it and it’s not just a temporary thing in Fraction’s run. I also enjoy the fact that Wade apparently knows sign language.

Also deadpool has his mask up to expose his lips so Hawkeye can read his lips so he doesn’t have to sign everything

I love Deadpool so much, you guys. Love love him. Every time I find out something new about Deadpool, I love him more, because it’s always shit like this.

Deadpool is lovely.

Deadpool is so much deeper than most people give him credit for

Reporting of incident where this man fucking forcibly ran into @bdoulaoblongata with his walker while saying he is Darren Wilson. Protestors were protesting this location because owner stopped allowing black patrons to enter, only white patrons and pulled a gun out on protestors.

Video clips of him allowing white patrons only and locking door to come.

During World War II, Josephine Baker served with the French Red Cross and was an active member of the French resistance movement. Using her career as a cover Baker became an intelligence agent, carrying secret messages written in invisible ink on her sheet music. She was awarded the Croix de Guerre, and received a Medal of the Resistance in 1946. In 1961 she received the highest French honor, the Legion d’Honneur awarded by then President Charles de Gaulle.

Our loss, U.S.A….

If you don’t admire the shit out of J. Baker, who was also pretty openly bisexual and adopted NINETEEN children in addition to the badassery mentioned above, I want you to go sit in the corner and think about your life choices.

um she was also a huge civil rights activist and her refusal to perform for segregated audiences at major clubs that were fallin over themselves to book her helped de-segregate vegas performance venues

aaaand she had a pet cheetah

My Least Favorite Trope (and this post will include spoilers for The Lego Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Matrix, Western Civilization, and—cod help me—Bulletproof Monk*.) is the thing where there’s an awesome, smart, wonderful, powerful female character who by all rights ought to be the Chosen One and the hero of the movie, who is tasked with taking care of some generally ineffectual male character who is, for reasons of wish fulfillment, actually the person the film focuses on. She mentors him, she teaches him, and she inevitably becomes his girlfriend… and he gets the job she wanted: he gets to be the Chosen One even though she’s obviously far more qualified. And all he has to do to get it and deserve it is Man Up and Take Responsibility.

And that’s it. Every god-damned time. The mere fact of naming the films above and naming the trope gives away the entire plot and character arc of every single movie.

When people like to chalk up a rising standard of living as a reason for capitalism it’s like yeah I’m sure scientists and engineers would just cease to exist under any other economic system

It’s like they never consider what would happen if the purpose of research and innovation wasn’t for monetary gain, it was for public benefit.

that’s because of course they value money over people.

“Medical research to make money?? Hell yeah!!! Medical research for the sake of saving lives??? Lmao what do you think I am some kind of hippie???”
